Photoshop Tutorial - Engraved Tree

Text Engraved On Tree

This tutorial will show you how to create text that appears to be engraved onto an big tree. The end result looks very photo-realistic. .

	Start a new document 600x600. Press "D" to reset your colors to black and white. Then go to Filters » Renders » Clouds.
	Choose the Type Tool and create your text in white. Make it as big as possible, then duplicate this text layer. Merge the first text layer with the background, then hide the top text layer (wiz copy).
	Now go to Filter » Render » Lighting Effects.
	How hit CTRL+F to reapply the lighting effect. Keep doing this until you end up with something similar to mine. I did it 5 times
	Now show/enable the top layer.
	Set the blending mode of the top layer to "Overlay" and opacity to 50%.

Johhny May/13/09 06:44This is terrible! It looks nothing like text engraved into a tree. You should try carving into a tree to research what it actually looks like. I'm guessing those "rings" inside the letters are supposed to be the rings of a tree? Which you would NOT see if you carved the SIDE of a tree. You would also NEVER get a perfect outline around the letters. Now I'm not saying the effect is completely useless.... just change the name of the tutorial because it does NOT look like it was engraved into a tree.

Kat Dec/24/08 07:47Very good effect! And for those of you whose didn't turn out right, that might be because this tutorial is not meant for beginners. I suggest trying simpler effects before tackling more complicated ones that require knowing how to do certain things, like hiding layers and the like.
